The Cancer /Sugar Connection

I was reading a publication called "Better Nutrition" that I received at the health food store and I came across a very interesting article. It was entitled "A to Z Cancer Prevention"written by Vera Tweed. It was a very worthwhile read.

One part in particular caught my eye. This information comes from Lise Alschuler, ND, director of naturopathic medicine at the Cancer Treatment center in Zion, IL.

Does sugar cause cancer?? Sugar doesn't directly feed the cancer cells but causes high levels of blood sugar. High levels of blood sugar or glucose eventually result in insulin resistance. This condition not only promotes inflammation but also aids in the development of cancer. Here is what I found shocking:

"Cancer cells are studded with insulin receptors. As a result, cancerous cells accept insulin more readily than healthy ones and the insulin stimulates division of cancer cells."

It is time to get the sugar and refined carbs out of our diets. This will make you think twice about eating sugar laden treats. And what about our children? I want to see better eating habits in my children and grandchildren. How about you?

Just read your blog for the first time. Congratulations to both of you! I am just starting another weight loss journey. Low carb this time, and I am certain this is the one that will work for me.

Hi, found your blog via Jimmy Moore's Livin La Vida Lo Carb Blog. Your experience (lost lots of weight on Atkins, but was bullied into stopping by well-meaning, but misinformed medical professionals), now back on low carb and finding it much harder after passing 40-something.

I really enjoy reading your posts, so I'll certainly be checking back with your blog.

I meant to say your experience is almost the same as mine. :-)
